"La société Bookeen est créée à Paris en 2003 à l’initiative de Michael Dahan et de Laurent Picard, deux ex-ingénieurs de chez Cytale. La société reprend la commercialisation de la tablette Cybook, interrompue après le dépôt de bilan de Cytale en juillet 2002. La nouvelle version du Cybook dispose d’une prise USB [universal serial bus] pour la recharge et la synchronisation de ses contenus. L’offre logicielle s’est enrichie: à côté des logiciels ’maison’ - le Boo Reader et le Boo Reader Vision - le Mobipocket Reader, le µBook et le PDF Viewer [PDF: portable document format] équipent désormais par défaut la tablette. En novembre 2004 Bookeen ouvre une librairie en ligne (Ubibooks) grâce à son partenariat avec l’agrégateur Mobipocket. Bookeen prépare la sortie de sa troisième génération de Cybook prévue en automne 2007 sous le nom de baptême ’Cybook Gen3’. Cette tablette exploitera la technologie d’encre électronique E Ink."
